Cost Sharing Policies

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at York College defines 'Cost Sharing' as the financial commitment an institution may take on any given project's expenses.

York College takes responsibility for a portion of any sponsored research project's expenses. As such, cost sharing occurs at any point in which a principal investigator's (PI) institution (YC in this case), or an external source, dictates that they will participate in the contribution of funds - or attribute personnel time - to a project without charging the project's grant for these circumstances, e.g., budget justification, research narratives, or written letters.

  • Cost sharing should not be included in any grant proposal unless it is required by the sponsor or granting agency. As such, cost sharing will not be allowed on any funding proposal to a federal agency unless specifically mandated in the program guidelines.
